Montana Visitor

Someone from Nebraska visited Montana and offers up some opinions; here are a few excerpts:

I try to avoid Montana in the winter for obvious reasons, however, I got sent to a small town about eighty miles from Glacier National Park, so I had to go.

I left Butte Montana, headed North to Great Falls, and wow, did I get hit with ole man winter. It took five hours to drive 154 miles.

The view of the Rockies from this little town of Choteau was breath taking. Marvelous. As far as you could see from right to left were fantastic snow covered Mountains. It was like looking at a winter paradise.

In the middle of the mountains was the small town of Lincoln. Yup, there is a Lincoln Montana. They were knee deep in snow, and one guy was out in a t-shirt shoveling snow in eight degree weather. I guess he must be used to it.

Help Busby!

David in Great Falls

One of my blog-buddies in Washington is looking for some online help to get the playing field at the school in Busby refurbished:

My mother-in-law is teaching at a reservation school in Montana. They need their playing fields refurbished- and Kellogg Foods is ready to help.

Vote here for this school:

N.C.T.S. Eagles Field
Busby MT 59016

It would make a huge difference to a very at-risk group of kids.

Use the Search box, narrow it to Montana, and then choose the Busby field; once you “support” it by passing a captcha test, you get a coupon for Kellogg’s cereal! Go vote and make a difference!

Blewett Blowing It on BNSF

David in Great Falls

, ,

Freshman MT Representative Anders Blewett is trying to make a big impact on a very huge, important issue here in Montana: amidst all the trifling talk of foreclosures, federal spending, health reform, energy, and so many other minor issues, Blewett has instead chosen to take on a huge, immense, important subject: issuing a pointless “censure” of BNSF for parking unused rail cars. Seriously. Here’s the intro to Blewett’s proposed resolution:

A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MONTANA PUBLICLY CENSURING THE BURLINGTON NORTHERN SANTA FE RAILWAY COMPANY FOR INDEFINITELY STORING RAILROAD CARS ALONG THE MISSOURI RIVER; AND URGING CONGRESS TO ENACT LEGISLATION PROHIBITING THIS STORAGE.

Come on – Blewett is a smart guy, so why is he wasting (and I do mean wasting) his time and that of other legislators on something so trivial, so unnecessary, and so pointless? And did you ever have someone tell you to “not make a federal case out of” something? As in, don’t make a mountain out of a molehill? Well, in the full text of the proposed resolution, he literally does try to make it a federal case out of the matter:

“(4) That the Secretary of State send copies of this resolution to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Company, the Montana Congressional Delegation, the Majority Leader of the United States Senate, and the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.”
