New Montana Blogs

David in Great Falls

Montana Gael is devoted to “Poetry, art, and news about the Montana Irish diaspora, with literary musings, a Celtic events calendar, and other brilliant links.” With Montana’s long & celebrated history of all things Irish, this is bound to be a great blog!

Kirsten In Montana features the tagline “Dropping out of corporate America and dropping back into life.” Montana seems like the right place to do that.

Tim Montana on Letterman

David in Great Falls

, ,

This is cool: Tim Montana, a country/rock musician who grew up in & around Butte, will appear on “The Late Show with David Letterman” tonight (Friday, October 17) to perform his song “Butte, America.”

Tim landed the gig on after he met Letterman while he (Letterman) was vacationing at his Choteau ranch.

More Montanans on Letterman: Cold Hard Cash (an awesome Johnny Cash tribute band from Great Falls) will be on Letterman in November. Like Tim Montana, they met Letterman when he was vacationing in Choteau.

Looks like aspiring musicians need to hang out in Choteau if Dave is in town!

This is cool: Google Maps now offers Street Views of Billings! As far as I know, Billings is the only Montana community to get this treatment so far.

Montana’s October Snow

David in Great Falls

,

The snowstorm that walloped Montana was newsworthy enough to be mentioned on the cable news networks:

mtsnow.jpg

Usually our dramatic weather just doesn’t rate coverage, probably because we don’t have a lot of people. Chicago gets hit with a few inches of snow, or Boston temps drop below zero, and it’s trumpeted in all major outlets. But Montana – often with huge snow and -40 temps – rarely gets mentioned.

Here’s a photo gallery of snow in and around Great Falls. Any other galleries of this weekend’s snow to share?

Montana in Pres/VP Debates

David in Great Falls

, , ,

It’s interesting that Montana has been mentioned in both of the debates so far, albeit only indirectly tonight.

Last week, during the Presidential debate between John McCain & Barack Obama, McCain referenced the bear DNA study in Montana as an example of government waste and pork-barrel spending.

In tonight’s VP debate between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden, the senator from Delaware talked about one of his early mentors, Mike Mansfield of Montana, then the Majority Leader in the Senate.

No such thing as bad press, as long as they spell (or say) your name right, I guess. Right?
