The Berkeley Of Montana

David in Great Falls

We all know that Missoula has a reputation for being somewhat liberal, politically and culturally. So it comes as no surprise – via OpenSecrets – that Missoula leads the largest communities in Montana in campaign donations to John Edwards, arguably the most liberal of the major Presidential candidates (well, until last week, when he dropped out of the race). Here is the list of candidates who raised the most Montana money in Missoula:

Meanwhile, down in Billings:

And here in Great Falls:

Small town, long streets…and unique neighborhoods.

Hey! I didn’t know GF was so enlightened!

One thing to consider, tho, is that Edwards was the only Dem candidate to come to Missoula…I think that gave him a big boost around here…

Sad to see Great Falls (Where I Live) spoken of as a “Small Town”. I can comment that I spent 18 years in the San Francisco Bay Area, and that some of the locals there (citing the turbulent 60’s, I’m sure) called that town “Bezerkly”.

Ron, I wasn’t referring to Great Falls as a “small town” — I was referring to one of the catch-phrases often applied to Montana as a whole: that it is a small town with long streets, since we think little of driving three hours for shopping in another town, so many of us are related to each other and know people on the other side of the state, and so on.

[...] And if you’re wondering how Great Falls stacks up against, say, Missoula and Billings, wonder no more. [...]
