Great Steak

Although I’ve never been there, I have it on reliable authority – my friend Keri – that Lindey’s Steak House in Seeley Lake is THE place to go for awesome steak. She stopped by Lindey’s while en route to Flathead this week and snapped the following pictures.

At Lindey’s website you’ll discover that the selection is pretty limited, although I don’t think that discourages anyone (except PETA loons):

“They don’t even have menus, just a sign perched by your table listing three entree selections – all steak, all 16 oz. portions. And the side dishes, which include potatoes you’ll crave for months, garlic bread, and pickled watermelon rind, are served family style. The cost is moderately priced and they don’t take reservations.”

So my questions for you: have you been to Lindey’s? And what other unique Montana (non-chain) steakhouses get a 5-star rating from you?

I have been to the Lindey’s in Minnesota a number of times. Two things that are remarkable about the place are:

    1. Only three items on the menu, all steaks.
    2. They only accept cash and the steaks are not cheap. So bring a pile of dough.

However, the food is good (but not great) and Lindey’s is a Minnesota institution.

Guy’s Steakhouse in Lolo is good; it probably has the best reputation in the Missoula area. Curley’s in Missoula serves a good steak in an old-school upscale atmosphere. And I’ve heard the Grubstake near Hamilton is good — that’s next on my list to try.

I look forward to seeing what others recommend.

The Bulldog Pub and Steakhouse here in Kalispell is excellent, and Barley’s has gotten a few bad reviews on tourism sites, but I love the food and brew there — they also have the most awesome sweet potato fries!

It’s been years since we’ve been there, so I’ll offer a qualified endorsement, but I always liked Land of Magic in Logan.

As a former Eastern Montanan, we had never heard of Lindey’s until we discovered Lindey’s in St. Paul this spring. We ate there with friends and we enjoyed our meal. It is a unique restaurant. They did take our check card so we didn’t need cash.

A chain? I think that we can do better.

In Great Falls, Borries on Tuesday night is the best Prime you will find. A short hop away in Manchester is the Cattlemen’s Cut, which has incredible Rib Eye steaks. Don’t order the 30 oz Cattlemen’s Cut without a note from your cardiologist.

However, the Oasis, in Manhattan (near Bozeman), is the best steak in the State.
