Hi everyone, Thank you to those who have replied to my previous post. I know that I shouldn’t go to a college JUST to find that ’special someone’. That isn’t what I’m planning on doing at all…that would be a very nice bonus, though. So, I want to go to a college that will…put me in the cowboyish atmosphere, sota speak. But, it also needs to be a place that will help me fulfill the educational aspects that I’ll need to get a major. I want to major in perhaps English or journalism, maybe–though, REALLY, when it comes right down to it, I have no idea in the world what I want to major in. Wow, that sounds pretty bad, when I see the words. It makes me feel like…I don’t know…lost, I guess. Which…I guess one could say I am.
But, anyway, no, that’s not the ONLY reason, the only thing, that I am looking for when I’m searching for the college I want to attend. But, if I go to a college in…California, for instance, that offers a major that I MIGHT be interested in, and I end up meeting some beach-boy and we get hitched, then I’ll PROBABLY forever regret the fact that he’s not a cowboy…that might seem shallow (does it??? Honestly??), but, I’m pretty sure that I WOULD. Because, that’s been my dream ever since I can remember…meeting my ‘cowboy prince’. On the other hand, if I were to go to a college in Montana, that offers a major that I MIGHT be interested in (because, in either case, I wouldn’t know what I wanted to major in, if I started at a university right now) and I meet some cowboy and he and I get hitched, then, unless he turns out to be the WRONG cowboy and he turns out to be a jerk (and, yeah, that might happen…after all, there are even some cowboys out there who are jerks, I’m sure *sighs*), I’m almost positive that I’ll be happy with my decision. You see what I’m sayin?
Thank you again for taking the time to reply-any and all advice is much appriciated.

UM offers a excellent journalism degree. MSU I’m not sure most people I know there were ag majors. UM-Western is a liberal arts school with excellent programs such as teaching, equine studies and geology.
Atmosphere at an college/university is not alway what you think. Missoula (UM) is not quite as cowboy-montana as Dillon (UM-W) and very different from Bozeman (MSU). Don’t judge a college by the state.
All the universities in Montana have high standards & many great programs. Check out thier websites.

Hi, when I began college I thought I’d do pre-med. Hated it.
Then Journalism. Hated it. You need to just go and see
what you like. I ended up doing counseling. And fine art.
Cowboys in Montana, correct me if I’m wrong here some of you cowboys,
generally are business majors so they can handle the business
aspects of running livestock operations. I know a few Montana cowboys
who got accounting degrees with business minors. Don’t they also
take a lot of biology and agriculture courses?

Don’t even consider the UM in Missoula. Yes, they have a great
english and journalism courses. Problem is the town is full of
fruits and nuts (Narry a good cowboy to be found). Dillon (UM Western)
is a very nice little school. You might also want to look into the
Junior Colleges (Cowboys often don’t like 4yr degrees, to many springs
in a little bitty class-room) Miles City Community, and Dawson Community
College are both famous Cowboy schools, and they could give you some
background to pick a degree.
One other wise saying from a country song. “Don’t call’em cowboy till
you’ve seen’em ride. Fancy hat and boots don’t tell ya whats inside”
Sorry, this old hand met his wonder woman at MSU-Bozeman and is now off
the market.
All the best in your search for a school.
