Last Best Place: The Opposition

David in Great Falls

Courtney left a comment in the entry below that needs to be seen by everybody:

“All of us indeed should help rally folks around creating a community opposition to this. The state is intervening and Congressman Rehberg is trying to coordinate something, but we need to all band together on a community-wide campaign against this. We’re trying to work something up now that could serve as an online place where we can coordinate our efforts. Email me at courtney @ newwest.net if you’re interested in helping out.”

According to this article there is a place you can lodge your official protest against the trademarking.

I believe Mr. Lipson intends to turn one of the common descriptions of our state; “The Last Best Place” into a commercial product; i.e. a product (say trademark) from which he; and he alone; can profit.

I opposed Claude Montana when he attempted to corner the market on the word “Montana” and I oppose Mr. Lipson in his efforts as well. So I offer my assistance, as humble as it might be, in any lawful effort to stop this in it’s tracks…

I believe the State should make immediate moves to trademark or do whatever is necessary to protect what we as citizens of this great state define ourselves as. What’s next; we lose “The Big Sky Country”; or “The Treasure State”; where does it end?

Oh, I just checked my email and I have a copy of the Notice of Opposition from the State Department of Commerce. It’s a word doc and I can post it if anyone is interested.

Montanans are pretty tame folk.

Back east, the appropriate message would be delivered to his family members and his kneecaps.

In Russia, they would just shoot the SOB.

Down south they would just burn him out. That might be what he actually wants. I wonder how much he has his Montana operation insured for?

In the meantime, has anyone thought of doing tradmarky or other things with the name Lipson?

Just thoughts, not recommendations.
