Nice Doggie

David in Great Falls

I love dogs. They’re so cute, loyal, playful, smart, and so on. Man’s best friend and such. BUT…I’ve never really cared for the “scary” dogs: pit bulls, dobermans, and others that usually get bad press. Don’t get me wrong — I’m not spoiling for a fight with pit-bull fans who maintain that they are sweet, gentle, loving dogs, and the only reason that some of them get crazy is because of lazy/bad/evil owners. And yes, I know that “pit bull” is not an exact breed, but everyone knows what kind of dog I am referring to. I know that most pit-bulls are your basic, standard-issue Nice Doggies. They’re just not quite “cute” enough for me, and I (like many people) have what may be exaggerated sense of wariness about them. I like collies and shelties (and still have a soft spot for dachschunds because we had two of them when I was growing up).

Now, having said all that…if you’re ever in the market for a pedigreed pit-bull, get on over to Montana Reds — he breeds and raises these pups right here in Central Montana. The owner is a friend of mine, and I’d trust any dog that was raised by him. Take a look at some of the new additions to the Montana Reds family! Even for a guy like me, these pups are pretty darn cute.

Yes, but — can you explain to me why someone wants a dog that, really, was bred to fight; frightens most people; and is associated with gangs and thugs? There are many big, lovely breeds out there — great danes, german shepherds, etc — who can keep up with the most active sort, and provide security, without unnerving the neighborhood.

It looks to me like it is mostly boys who want to be tough (implication: they are not) who want this breed.

Oh, this will get me in trouble, won’t it?

Sharon, in every stereotype there is usually a grain of truth.

2 things: NORMAL people want pits because they’re lovable, tough, energetic, and friendly dogs (to people… not necessarily other dogs, but some of us would rather have a loyal friend than a social butterfly for a dog), and I’ve tried contacting Mike at montana reds and i’ve only recieved one nice email, but when i asked for a good time for me to come out and see the parents, he never replied… it’s been several weeks, does anyone have a phone number or something for him????

I answered all your mails nicely? The date of your last email was 27 August so it’s harldy been several weeks
since you heard from me?

You were pushing too hard and this is another example of it. If I have not written back it’s because I have
not been home, been busy, or maybe just did not want to? Trying to hunt down my phone number will not change any of
those reasons.

I told you to read the contract and if you could abide by it then email back. Contract is very specific as to the
housing requirements for the dogs and I do not believe you have read the contract to date? Contract requires a
dedicated fenced yard “among other things” and you stated you live or will live in an apartment which does not
meet this requirement? There are other statements you made that made me believe we were not a good match and should
not conduct business.

Please do not try to contact me in the future by email or phone as it will not chnage the fact we should not be
doing business together.
