I see the Bearthooth pass was closed last night due to snow. As the article states this is a little unusual for August, but not unheard of. I wonder what this early cool and wet, in some areas at least, weather means for the coming winter?
I have noticed that the mice are migrating towards the buildings which usually is a sign that winter is approaching but it sure is awful early for that. Normally don’t see that kind of activity till the first part of October. I have also noticed the Antelope gathering up into larger herds. Again this is normally activity I see in October that indicates that winter is approaching so by all these indications it appears winter might be early with lots of snow.
On the other side I heard on the radio that the Farmers Almanac is predicting a mild, dry winter for this area. The last thing we need around here is a mild, dry winter. We need a long, snowy, cold, Montana winter which will help replace lost moisture. I sure hope the animals are right and not the Farmers Almanac.

Mmmmmmm…”a long, snowy, cold Montana winter”…sounds perfect to me. I’m rooting for the animals to be right!
I hate to contradict My Loving Hubby but we don’t need a really snowy winter. Just enough to have water and grass for the cows come spring. I don’t need to fight the nasty roads all winter when going to Billings.
The number 2 comment is frpom me. Sorry about that.
I’m with your wife, Sam. We are both going to remember what you said next winter when it is sooooooooooo cold nothing will start and nothing will work and you are trying to feed that hay you bought to the cows!
I will point out I siad that we need, not that I particularly look forward to, a long, snowy, cold, Montana winter. It would be a royal pain in the b–t, but the need is there.
But we can still say that you were the one asked for it and therefore it could be considered your fault. :-)
Yep.

I see a national news story this morning on how snow has closed some mountain roads in Colorado. Two days ago I mentioned in the bigskyblog that snow had closed the Beartooth highway but this was reported only in the local news items and failed to make…
