The next round of Base Realignment & Closure (BRAC) is coming up – so how does Montana’s only active military installation rate? According to this Great Falls Tribune article, pretty good.

I tried to meet the moon challenge. I’m sure my camera has some setting for night photography, but I have yet to learn it. So after an outdoor attempt, I tried from indoors — I love it when the moon shines into my room.

The size of Montana towns (cities?) is pretty well known here in Montana; we all know that Billings is the largest city in terms of population, and Missoula and Great Falls have battled for 2nd place for a few years now, with Missoula starting to pull ahead. After that, Butte and Bozeman, with Helena, the state capitol, holding steady in sixth place.
1. Billings: 89,847
2. Missoula: 57,053
3. Great Falls: 56,690
4. Butte-Silver Bow: 34,606
5. Bozeman: 27,509
So I was a bit puzzled when I saw this post over at Lost Remote — it lists the market size of all cities & towns in the U.S according to how many “TV Homes” are in each. Naturally, the large metro areas are the leaders (NYC, LA, Chi-town, etc), but as I searched for Montana towns, look at what I found:

In keeping with today’s theme of Moon Over Montana, here is my entry, taken (IIRC) in February of 2003 in the very early morning…

I noticed the beautiful full moon this morning and I grabbed my camera to take a picture of it to share. I was not overly happy with the way it turned out so I wasn’t planning on posting it until Kalamity challenged Monatana bloggers to share their pictures so I decided to share it. Be warned I am not particularly happy with the way it turned out.

The moon was incredible last night here in Reno Township. This morning I did take a few photos as it hid behind the Beartooth Mountains. I use an antique OM-1, so who knows when we’ll be able to view those shots. But since the full moon is today, how about some of you show us what the moon looks like in your neck of the woods?

The first Big Sky Blog button — you’re all invited to add it to your site, or create your own and post it here for us to use! It’s my first button, and it’s probably a bit too big, so scale it down if you need to. EDIT: I changed my button to accommodate the dimensions that Jen indicated.
UPDATE: The second button is from Jen – beautiful! The third one is from Sharon – perfect!

Here comes the charge of outside money coming in to influence the state elections. The Republican Governors Association says, “we expect to be involved.” Why is it these groups feel they need to come in and try to influence our elections? Aren’t we smart enough to figure things out ourselves? Don’t get me wrong, Bob Brown needs all the help he can get and he doesn’t appear to be getting it from the people of Montana but that doesn’t mean they have to stick their nose in it.
As much as I personally don’t like Schweitzer I do have to agree, yea there is always a first time, with him when he states, “he’d rather see outside groups stay out of the Montana gubernatorial election when it comes to campaigning and campaign ads.” I will just add the money needs to stay out for all elections, including ballot issues where so much money tends to flow in, and let us decide.

Is this power plant ever good news for Big Horn County. Chronically plagued by high unemployment, 15.7% in 2003, the prospects of a large number of full time jobs the power plant will bring is really giving people a positive attitude. Then there is the new private detention facility that is being discussed and the Hardin community is hopping. The question becomes though will all this development help employment rates?
